About

A highly respected environmental engineering firm is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join as a Project Manager. This requires a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong technical depth and proven project leadership to join our team in Farmington, CT. There will be an opportunity to take full ownership of complex remediation and environmental infrastructure projects, like designing and implementing solutions for soil, groundwater, and soil vapor contamination, while leading multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review technical reports, engineering designs, and remedial strategies for a wide range of environmental engineering projects.
  • Develop and evaluate contract plans, technical specifications, permit applications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise subcontractors during fieldwork, construction, and remediation activities.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Communicate professionally with private clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies, representing the firm with technical credibility.
  • Apply working knowledge of CT, NY, and Federal environmental regulations, industry standards, and design guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, EHS, hazardous materials, and remediation teams, as well as external vendors and sub‑consultants.
  • Lead large‑scale bid preparation efforts and conduct efficient, technically informed site bid walks.
  • Manage project financials, including invoicing and accounts receivable, in partnership with the Accounting Department.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering efficiency, technical quality, and client value.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support project and organizational success.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
  • 2-5+ years of project management and/or construction management
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering practice (ideally environmental focused)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Preferred Experience

  • Environmental engineering design, permitting, construction, demolition, and remediation involving contaminated soils and sediments.
  • Experience with linear utility permitting in the Northeast and coordination of ecological, archeological, wetlands, and NDDB surveys.
  • Design of environmental controls and remediation systems (e.g., groundwater pump‑and‑treat, SVE, sub‑slab depressurization), including pilot testing and system optimization.
  • Preparation of technical specifications and detailed cost estimates.
  • Direct interaction with Federal, State, and local regulators on civil and environmental engineering projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, HydroCAD, Hydraflow, or HEC‑RAS is highly desirable.
