About the role

General Information

Position is primarily onsite in Troy, Michigan without approval for relocation assistance. In an effort to globally align titles, the official title will be Engineering Team Lead, however the job duties are aligned with the local market Engineering Manager role.

Base compensation for this position will be within the range of $120,000 to $150,000 upon hire.

  • 15% bonus potential (1st year is prorated based on date of hire).

General Responsibilities and Function

  • Lead the design engineering function responsible for application engineering, implementation, project management and launch of products for mobility applications in the North American region; in alignment with the strategic objectives.
  • Lead, train and mentor the engineering organization, building core teams and supporting personnel development. Responsible for developing their required portfolio of skills including design engineering, GD&T, Cad, CAE, APQP etc. Work with leadership and human resources in the organizational development and managerial deliverables.
  • Coordinate resources and priorities with peers for project planning, organization of workload, supporting crisis events while ensuring respective KPI’s are met for the cross functional teams.
  • Plan and execute the organizational strategy of the mobility engineering team with the leadership team regionally and globally.
  • Guide development of engineering programs and review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and specifications.
  • Define the technical objectives, establish decision-making processes, conduct trade studies, resolve conflicts, and guide the team through the design space.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer in internal communications and represent Engineering externally.
  • Identify risks to customer satisfaction and project deliverables, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Assist project engineers and account managers in planning project financials, tracking costs, and ensuring profitability.
  • Support Business Development activities in market research, competitor analysis, and identifying potential customer leads.
  • Support the development of required capabilities for the test engineering and production quality laboratories, CMM capabilities and benchmarking new requirements driven by Witzenmann, it's industry sector applications and trends in Mobility new energy developments externally.
  • Be a motivated individual who exceeds customer expectations while building, guiding, and inspiring a team of 5 to 15 people and the broader cross functional organization.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous, time-sensitive environments with complex engineering challenges.

Special Circumstances of the Job

  • Domestic and international travel is required (<25%)
  • Ability to respond quickly and decisively during customer or operational crises
  • Work with minimal direction and make decisions independently.
  • Remain updated on leading edge technologies through association with global Witzenmann organization and various industry trade organizations.
  • Rare lifting, bending, twisting, climbing, or carrying may be required, approximately 20 pounds.

Qualification Requirements

  • Four year engineering degree with concentration in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial or equivalent.
  • Requires 10+ years’ experience with product engineering, project engineering and APQP
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in Mobility industry, ideally in vibration management and thermal management (ICE, HEV or BEV etc.).
  • Previous technical team management experience, team would comprise of project or design engineers and CAD designers.
  • Knowledge of OEM and Tier 1 environments in an international setting.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process tooling and part fabrication for complex automotive & commercial vehicles metal products, ideally in exhaust or power train domain.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate. (MS Office, Technical Presentations, etc.)
  • Strong technical sales ability and capable of training team in the necessary skills to support the same.
  • Self-motivator with an ability to motivate others.

Additional Desired Qualification

  • Master’s degree in engineering or business.
  • PMI and/or APQP certification.
  • Knowledge of design, tooling and part fabrication for automotive exhaust systems, flexible decoupling elements, media transfer, cooling plates and pipes of metal and other materials.
