Entry-Level Software Engineer (m/w/d)

Your role: As a Junior Full-stack Developer in our Logistics Engineering department, you will dive into the heart of the Just Eat experience. This department oversees the entire delivery lifecycle for millions of orders while supporting our extensive network of couriers. In particular, the Courier Onboarding team plays an essential role, serving as the first touchpoint for new applicants eager to join JET's courier network. The experiences we craft for prospective couriers are vital in guiding them through the onboarding process, enabling them to start their journey with us. In this exciting position, you will collaborate closely with seasoned engineers to develop, test, and deploy features throughout the entire application stack. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge backend (Java/Quarkus/Spring) and frontend (React) technologies in a high-volume, distributed microservices setup, all while receiving support to learn best practices in design, coding, and system operations. Your contributions will include: • Developing and maintaining scalable, robust, and high-performance backend services using Java (or similar JVM languages). • Implementing user interfaces and front-end features with modern JavaScript frameworks, primarily React. • Collaborating with senior engineers and the Product team to comprehend requirements and translate them into clean, maintainable code. • Actively participating in code reviews, applying constructive feedback to enhance code quality and learning from peers. • Writing comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure the reliability of developed features. • Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving basic production issues with guidance from senior team members. • Enhancing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. • Learning and applying essential software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices for building distributed systems. • Working with relational and NoSQL databases, supporting data modeling and query development. What you bring: • Professional experience in software development (internships, academic projects, or personal projects count). • Solid foundational knowledge in an object-oriented programming language (preferably Java) and a basic understanding of web frameworks like Spring Boot. • Basic experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end libraries/frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue. • Familiarity with foundational web technologies (HTML5, CSS3). • Understanding of basic database concepts (SQL, relational databases) and experience with writing simple queries. • Exposure to microservices architecture concepts and RESTful API principles is a plus. • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git. • A strong curiosity, proactive attitude for learning new technologies, and excellent problem-solving skills. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to ask questions and seek help. • Commitment to writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. • Experience with containerization (Docker) or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) is a bonus.
