About

Creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment across the site. This role ensures all environmental, health, and safety systems meet legal and operational standards, while supporting continuous improvement and protecting employees, visitors, and company assets - in the FMCG / Manufacturing industry

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the site EHS team to ensure full compliance with legal and internal standards
  • Implement and maintain safety and sustainability programmes across the operation
  • Develop, update, and enforce EHS policies, procedures, and systems
  • Monitor site performance, report on EHS metrics, and drive improvements
  • Manage workplace incident investigations and implement preventative actions
  • Oversee audit readiness, conduct internal audits, and close out findings effectively
  • Handle liability claims in collaboration with insurers and relevant stakeholders
  • Provide EHS support to production and engineering teams
  • Identify risks and implement practical, cost-effective mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate EHS training programmes with HR
  • Drive continuous improvement of EHS systems aligned to business goals
  • Support certification and maintenance of ISO standards (e.g., ISO 14001)
  • Ensure compliance of site safety controls (e.g., monitoring systems at access points)
  • Work with medical professionals to maintain occupational health programmes
  • Contribute to budgeting and cost control within the EHS function
  • Take on additional duties as required by site leadership

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant qualification (NQF Level 6 or National Diploma in Health & Safety or similar)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or food production environment
  • Solid understanding of EHS legislation and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP)
  • Experience with risk identification and mitigation
  • Familiarity with SAP and standard business systems

Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing environment with moving machinery
  • Exposure to heat, humidity, and dust
  • Shift work, including weekends and public holidays

  • Use of required PPE at all times
