About the role
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end system design and development of Exciter products, ensuring integration with broader system architectures.
- Develop and optimize firmware solutions tailored to Exciter product requirements.
- Conduct detailed analysis of system performance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project goals.
- Debug and troubleshoot firmware issues, ensuring reliability, safety, and high performance.
- Implement real-time control algorithms, communication protocols, and error-handling mechanisms.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to ensure seamless integration between firmware and hardware components.
- Provide technical leadership for Exciter-related projects, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, product support, etc.) to align on product requirements and technical objectives.
- Perform system validation and verification, ensuring system robustness and addressing potential risks.
- Identify opportunities to enhance Exciter systems and firmware efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending new tools and techniques to enhance product development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Exciter products and firmware, guiding junior engineers and supporting team development.
- Provide technical input during design reviews and peer code reviews, ensuring quality control across all projects.
- Promotes continuous improvement applying Lean mindset.
- Focus and put effort on automating tests or production environments (eg. regression testing, shop floor automation).
- Assessing system requirements, design and implement system architecture and configurations.
- Architect, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for Exciter systems.
Requirements:
- This role requires significant experience in the Controls Engineering & Program Management.
- Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
- For roles in USA - Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
- Master’s Degree in a technical discipline either in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Applied/Experimental Physics.
- 15+ years relevant work experience, preferably in software design and test.
- Extensive experience in firmware development for embedded systems, including experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Proven track record in developing control systems and working with complex hardware-software integrations.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and embedded software development for microcontrollers.
- Expertise in Exciter technologies, signal processing, and control algorithms.
- Experience with communication protocols.
- Strong understanding of hardware/firmware debugging tools and techniques (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Ability to prioritize activities and work with limited supervision.
- Must be able to work effectively in a global cross-functional team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve problems.
- Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide technical teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams.
- English required.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience with Excitation and/or Static Starter products.
- Knowledge of test instrumentation and measurement systems.
- In depth knowledge of various internal testing standards or equivalent external standards related to Mechanical and Environmental, Reliability and EMC.
- Knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.
- Experience working in a lab would be a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Experience in power electronics or RF systems related to Exciter technologies.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with version control systems.
