About Our Client

Our client is a well-established construction subcontractor in the telecommunications infrastructure construction industry and specializes in providing in-house design, engineering and installation solutions to fiber-optics network providers across Canada.

The Role

They have a newly created job for a Fibre Optics Network Design Engineering Manager. The role is responsible for providing leadership to the Design and Engineering teams (10-12 direct reports approx.), planning, execution, budgeting and overall process improvement of the design engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of Fibre Optics Network Design Engineers — coaching, mentoring and performance management (10-12 approx. direct reports approx.)
• Oversee all design activity including Telecommunication fiber network designs; Design of fibre routes and network layouts; splice diagrams and fibre allocation tables.
• Creation of construction-ready drawings to be used by installation crews.
• Ensure selection of the right equipment.
• Identify any possible issues with existing infrastructure - hydro lines, municipal infrastructure, railways and similar.
• Ensure and lead permitting requirements / regulatory compliance with municipal permits, requirements from hydro, highway and similar; ensure compliance with Canadian Electrical Code, and the carrier build standards.
• Oversee Bill of Materials (BoM), material take-offs and cost estimation (labour, materials, equipment), support procurement planning and material scheduling.
• Ensure drawings to optimize OTDR testing and smooth handover of the completed networks to the customers.

Qualifications

• Strong Design Engineering background from the telecom industry
• Canadian Electrical code compliance
• Permitting and regulatory requirements from the municipalities and similar
• Minimum 4–5 years in a people leadership role

Requirements

• 10-12 years of telecommunication design engineering and people leadership experience
• Able to work 5 days in office
