About the role
About the Role
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) is the technical backbone of the sales process, responsible for ensuring the company's HDLC and iPDU solutions are precisely selected, configured, and integrated for each client. The role holder works directly with client technical teams to understand requirements, then provides product recommendations, custom configurations, and on-site support to ensure solution fit.
In this role, you will be involved in both pre-sales and post-sales phases: from initial design and demonstrations to technical support for installation teams.
Responsibilities
Requirements Analysis and Solution Specification:
- Engage clients (data center operators, facility engineers, IT architects) from the start of the sales cycle to gather detailed technical requirements regarding cooling and power.
- Analyze factors such as current rack density, thermal loads, facility water loop parameters, and redundancy needs.
- Use these inputs to recommend appropriate solutions – for example, determining whether a direct-to-chip cold plate system or a rear-door heat exchanger is more suitable, and sizing the required CDU capacity (kW).
Product Selection and Configuration:
- Translate requirements into specific product configurations and part numbers.
- Assist clients in selecting the correct models of liquid cooling distribution units, rack manifolds, heat exchangers, and intelligent PDUs.
- Configure these solutions using sizing tools and engineering calculations (for flow rates, coolant temperatures, electrical load balancing, etc.), ensuring the proposed configuration meets performance objectives under European operating conditions (e.g., accounting for higher ambient temperatures or local power standards).
Technical Proposal Support:
- Prepare technical content for proposals and bids. This includes creating system topology diagrams, writing functional descriptions, and compiling equipment lists with all relevant accessories (pumps, sensors, controllers).
- Ensure any technical documentation clearly demonstrates compliance with client specifications and industry guidelines (ASHRAE TC 9.9 for liquid cooling, CE directives, etc.).
- Work closely with sales to integrate this content into a compelling offering: demonstrations, testing, and in-person engagement.
- Conduct proof-of-concept deployments and pilot installations for clients wishing to evaluate the technology. Install demo units such as a rack with a rear-door chiller or a small liquid cooling loop to showcase performance.
- Perform light-duty on-site data collection – e.g., measuring inlet/outlet temperatures, humidity, and server exhaust temperatures – to establish baselines.
- During project execution, support the commissioning team by verifying technical parameters (valve positions, firmware on iPDU, sensor calibrations) and troubleshooting any performance issues that arise.
Technical Advisor and Feedback Loop:
- Act as the go-to technical advisor for both the client and internal sales throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide training or detailed explanations to client thermal engineers and operational staff on how the HDLC system operates and the necessity for it to be maintained. Internally, relay any custom requirements or field issues back to product engineering teams.
- By maintaining this feedback loop, contribute to product improvement and ensure proposed solutions remain robust and cutting-edge.
