Job Description

The Role

As a Field Applications Engineer – Embedded Software Tools, you'll be the technical authority that connects GSAS's embedded software portfolio to the engineers who depend on it. You'll work directly with sales and development teams building safety-critical, real-time, and resource-constrained embedded systems — helping them evaluate, adopt, and get the most out of compilers, RTOS platforms, static analysis tools, unit testing frameworks, and debug/trace solutions. This role demands genuine embedded engineering depth paired with the ability to articulate technical value in customer-facing contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical product demonstrations, evaluations, and proof-of-concept engagements for GSAS's embedded software portfolio — covering compilers and toolchains, real-time operating systems and middleware stacks, static analysis and code quality tools (MISRA, AUTOSAR, CERT compliance), unit and integration testing frameworks, and debug/trace solutions for ARM Cortex-M, Cortex-R, and Cortex-A architectures.
  • Guide engineering teams through the integration of development tools into their existing workflows — RTOS bring-up, toolchain migration from legacy platforms, static analysis rule set configuration, test harness setup, and CI/CD pipeline integration for embedded targets.
  • Conduct technical training sessions and onboarding programs for engineering teams working on safety-critical (ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304), real-time, and high-assurance embedded systems. Help customers understand not just how to use the tools, but why specific workflows matter for certification and compliance.
  • Support migration paths from legacy development environments to modern, standards-compliant toolchains — including transitions from proprietary compilers to industry-standard options, bare-metal to RTOS-based architectures, and manual testing to automated verification workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Manager on opportunity qualification, technical proposal development, and competitive positioning. Translate field insights — customer pain points, workflow gaps, competitive displacement opportunities — into actionable intelligence for the sales and product teams.
  • Contribute to GSAS's technical knowledge base: application notes, migration guides, competitive comparison documents, webinar content, and workshop curricula that strengthen the team's ability to engage customers with credibility.

Requirements

  • Basic experience in embedded systems development, technical pre-sales, or application engineering. You've written C/C++ for microcontrollers, configured an RTOS, used a debugger to find a hard fault, or set up a static analysis tool — ideally more than one of these.
  • Good proficiency in C/C++ for embedded targets, with practical experience on ARM Cortex architectures. Familiarity with at least one RTOS (FreeRTOS, embOS, ThreadX, QNX, or similar) and at least one static analysis or testing tool.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering and management audiences. You can whiteboard an RTOS task scheduling scenario for a developer and explain the business case for static analysis adoption to a VP of Engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline. Willingness to travel for customer demos, training workshops, and industry events.

Benefits

A technically deep role where you'll work at the cutting edge of embedded software development — helping teams build the systems that go into vehicles, aircraft, medical devices, and industrial controllers. You'll represent globally recognized tool brands and work alongside engineers solving problems that demand precision and safety. A team that rewards technical curiosity, competitive compensation with performance-linked incentives, and a growth path into senior FAE, solutions architecture, or product management.
