About the role
Purpose of Role
The purpose of this role is to deliver expert onsite maintenance, repair and technical support for industrial valve systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient equipment operation. The specialist diagnoses and resolves valve-related issues, providing technical guidance to customers and performs all work in line with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards and safety requirements.
Brief Duties and Responsibilities
- Precision fitting with reference to components assembly particularly bearings, both white metal sleeve type as well as normal roller and ball bearings as well as tilting pad arrangements.
- Precision measuring ability both inside and outside micrometers, verniers and depth gauges as well as telescopic gauges and DTIs.
- Sound engineering practices with regards to fitting of tolerance components such as sleeves, impellers, couplings, etc. (knowledge of fits and tolerances).
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
- Previous or current exposure to equipment installations and “mechanical fitting practices”.
- Shaft and coupling alignment both multiple dial and laser method.
- General experience on rotating equipment such as blowers, compressors, gear reducers, motor drivers and ideally on multi-stage pumps.
- Exposure to pump systems, fault finding and pump systems start up and commissioning practices.
- Support and train current and new Field Service Engineers.
- Assist the Field Service Supervisor in the execution of their daily tasks.
- Demonstrate appropriate behaviour in the workplace (attendance, teamwork, safety, etc.).
- Provide work leadership and technical assistance to Field Service Engineers.
- Comply with an enforce all the Client’s policies and procedures.
- Assist fellow employees with daily functions as and when required.
- Carry out all other reasonable tasks that may be delegated from time to time.
Education
- Matric
- N3/N4 Qualified Fitter / Artisan / Turner / Turner Machinist advantageous.
Experience
- 4 Years’ experience in valves, actuators and controls.
- 2 Years’ experience specific to the Client’s products (highly advantageous).
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Insight into on-site valve machining and lapping.
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
- Understanding of valve trim, seals, packing, seats and internal components.
