Job Description
This is a new and exciting opportunity supporting Heathrow’s multi-billion-pound capital investment programme. The Expansion Business & Investment Planning Team works across the Expanding Heathrow programme, including securing planning consent through the DCO, developing the future operating model for Heathrow, designing, procuring and constructing infrastructure for an expanded airport, and working with critical stakeholders such as communities and airlines to deliver key commitments.
The Expansion Business & Investment Planning Team is responsible for developing and refining the investment case for an expanded Heathrow, including financial models, and supporting strategic choices through robust financial evaluation. The team also supports financial target setting, reporting and delivery for Expansion, provides financial partnering and advice to inform decision-making and performance, and ensures strong integration across the wider business through effective governance, processes, and transparency. The role sits within the wider Investment & Planning team and works closely with colleagues across Finance and the broader Heathrow organisation.
Your role will involve
The role will be focused on (i) long term business planning for expanded Heathrow, (ii) the overall investment case, (iii) individual investment appraisals, (iv) preparing external disclosures, and (v) providing other ad-hoc support.
(1) Investment Case
- Support with project activities and deliverables to develop the expansion business case.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis to test and/or support the development of assumptions.
- Manage integrity of financial models used for the investment case.
- Support the development of the investment case: base forecasts, scenarios and sensitivities.
- Support with robust and high integrity recording of all information.
(2) Investment Appraisal
- Support the evaluation of the overall expansion and individual business cases, risks and opportunities, quantified impacts.
- Help manage robust governance processes and disciplined record keeping, controls and management.
(3) Internal and External information disclosures
- Support financial disclosures and reporting for external stakeholders.
These skills are essential
- Financial modelling: ability to operate and interrogate excel based models.
- Project Management: attention to detail, be proactive, anticipate the next move.
- Analytical: eye for detail, diligent, solve problems, monitor compliance.
- Interpersonal skills: ability to engage, network, influence key stakeholders.
- Strong Communication: interact with senior internal/external audiences.
Ideally, you will also have
- Financial Modelling awareness: design, build models.
- Finance Qualification: Part-Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CFA).

Working Location
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
