About

An Agritalet client, multinational agri-commodties trading firm, seeks a Financial Accountant: Stock to responsible for the accurate financial accounting, reconciliation, valuation, and reporting of all stock-related transactions within the trading business.

This role manages end‑to‑end stock accounting processes, including stock reconciliations, supplier (farmer and co‑op) stock payments, stock financing with banks, and month-end close activities.

The position supports a high‑volume trading environment and requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure with strict monthly deadlines.

Key working relationships:

  • Internal: CFO, Head of Trading and Traders, Logistics/Execution, IT/ERP
  • External: Auditors, SARS, banks

Duties & Responsibilities

1 Stock Reconciliations

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of stock across all sites, warehouses, and product categories.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve stock discrepancies between operational systems, ERP records, and financial ledgers.
  • Maintain accurate stock ledgers and ensure integrity of all stock movements.
  • Collaborate with procurement, logistics, and operations teams to validate receipts, dispatches, losses, and adjustments.

2 Stock Payments (Farmers & Co-ops)

  • Prepare and process accurate stock supplier payments, including farmers, cooperatives, and third‑party trading partners.
  • Verify contract pricing, quality grading, volumes, and delivery documentation before payment approval.
  • Maintain complete and auditable documentation for all stock-related payments.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and resolve billing or stock-related disputes.

3 Stock Financing with Banks

  • Manage all stock‑related financing arrangements with banking partners.
  • Prepare and submit accurate stock position reports to banks for financing facilities (e.g., inventory financing).
  • Ensure that stock values submitted to banks reconcile fully to internal systems and financial records.
  • Monitor bank financing limits, interest charges, and facility utilisation to ensure compliance with terms.
  • Liaise with bank representatives regarding facility drawdowns, reconciliations, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Maintain finance schedules and ensure proper accounting of interest, fees, and financing adjustments.
  • Support treasury, finance leadership and logistics team with forecasting and liquidity planning related to stock financing.

4 Month-End Accounting & Reporting

  • Perform month‑end stock valuations in accordance with company policies (relevant valuation methodology).
  • Process month‑end journals, including GRN accruals, stock provisions, fair value adjustments, and write‑offs.
  • Prepare detailed stock‑related management reports, including variance analysis, cost changes, and gross margin impacts.
  • Support external audits with stock documentation, reconciliations, and year‑end stock count evidence.

5 Financial Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal control procedures across all stock processes.
  • Maintain accurate audit trails for all stock movements, valuations, and financing activities.
  • Identify control gaps, propose improvements, and support implementation of process enhancements.

6 Systems & Process Support

  • Ensure stock modules within the ERP system operate accurately and reflect real-time stock positions.
  • Assist with system enhancements, testing, and implementation of stock-related changes.
  • Train operational teams on correct stock capturing practices and control procedures.

7 Ad‑hoc Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties, analyses, reporting, or support tasks as required by Senior Management.
  • Assist with special projects, process improvements, strategic initiatives, or operat

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • Relevant financial and accounting qualification with at least three years completed SAIPA/SAICA articles.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in finance , preferably in trading, agriculture or any stock-intensive environment.

Experience:

  • Experience in stock accounting, reconciliations and stock financing essential and highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/IFRS for SMEs and VAT (imports/exports/zero-rating).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive system enhancements and automation.
  • Excellent presentation, communication skills and time management skills.
  • Confident character to challenge and influence management with the objective to improve the business.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
