Under direction of the Financial Manager, this position will be responsible for strategic budgeting, forecasting and analysis, financial reporting, and business operational back-up to the UC Davis Institute of the Environment and its centers, programs, large initiatives, and ad hoc financial projects.

Department Overview
The UC Davis Institute of the Environment is a designated Organized Research Unit (ORU) reporting to the Office of Research. The Office of Research (OR) serves as the catalyst for advancing the research mission at UC Davis. Currently, OR oversees 7 ORUs, 13 Special Research Programs 4 IMPACT Centers, and central facilities with over 1,100 employees and annual expenditure and recharge income in excess of $210 Million. There are several research centers under the Institute umbrella including the Center for Watershed Sciences, Center for the Health & the Environment, the Natural Reserve System, Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute/Bodega Bay Marine Lab and several other research programs and initiatives.
The Institute Administrative Services team provides support to the research centers and programs under the Institute umbrella with total expenditures exceeding $45M+ annually. The Institute is a large and complex ORU with 240+ affiliated faculty, professional researchers, adjunct professors, academic and staff support personnel. The ORU occupies 82,680 square feet of regular academic and administrative offices, laboratories, field buildings, and other special facilities in 24 buildings and off-site facilities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work related experience
- Experience analyzing budget proposals and policies, or performing high-level financial Management tasks in a multi-fund source environment; Experience developing budgets for annual operational and extramural purposes, reconciling ledgers and developing and/or adapting spreadsheets and databases.
- Demonstrated Experience using Microsoft Excel and other common programs to distill relevant financial and statistical information from large data sets and present the information for financial reporting; Experience with other similar spreadsheet and presentation programs may be considered equivalent.
- Experience in financial analysis and business Management, including forecasting and strategic planning, to analyze quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues, Compile financial data and prepare financial reports, and present information in an appropriate format; Experience working with complex spreadsheets, databases, and web-based Accounting and information systems.
- Experience developing recharge rates and operational budgets including a clear understanding of federal guidelines for recharge rate methodology development; Experience performing high-level Analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting complex data to facilitate Decision-making and strategic planning.
- Experience with the application of cost Accounting Principles to handle budgeting, rate development, and financial reporting in a business environment.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills appropriate for individual, group and formal presentations, to interact effectively with diverse communities and Senior leaders to present complex data, prepare Analytical reports, proposals, and correspondence to facilitate Decision making.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with university budgets and budgetary structures.-Knowledge and Experience of federal, state, university, and private grantor policies, procedures, and guidelines. Experience with UCD policies and web-based systems for Accounting grants and contracts, purchasing, etc.
- Ability to employ Mathematical, statistical, Analytical and problem solving skills to identify problems, analyze and Compile data, present financial data and recommend solutions and contingency plans in a meaningful and useful format.-Writing, editing and proofreading skills to prepare clear, accurate reports appropriate for the intended audience. organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload and to use judgment to make logical decisions.

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
