The principal services offered by CHM Fire Consultants Ltd include code consulting, fire safety engineering design, fire testing for research as well as to meet code requirements, test standard and code development. The company is well-equipped to employ existing fire-safety engineering tools or to undertake research to develop new information and tools to address other pressing fire safety issues.
Job Summary
CHM is seeking an intermediate building code consultant to expand our team in delivering timely and high-quality service to our growing list of clients. We are looking for a dynamic and independent individual who can carry a project from kick-off through completion, providing consistency and timely responsiveness to our clients.
The candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and taking responsibility for creative and viable code compliance solutions.
- Managing projects from commencement to completion.
- Negotiating and communicating solutions with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
- Developing alternative solutions, engineering judgements, building code compliance reports, research reports, and other fire safety engineering documents.
- Conducting field reviews and inspections.
Ideal Candidate Attributes
- College Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or Master’s degree in Construction or Engineering, preferably in the field of Fire Protection Engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in building code consulting.
- PEO Licensee or other jurisdiction in Canada, or eligibility is an asset.
- A working familiarity building codes in Canada, with applied use of the National Building Code and the Ontario Building Code.
- Knowledge of Fire Safety and Life Safety principles
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong focus on client service and delivery of timely and viable engineering solutions.
- Valid driver’s license.

- Salary will be based on experience with annual bonus based on contributions.
