Your Mission
As a Firmware and Embedded Systems Engineer (FPGA – VHDL), you will contribute to the design, development, commissioning, and continuous improvement of FPGA firmware used in real-time industrial systems. Your mission is to ensure reliable, high-performance interaction between acquisition hardware and embedded or host systems.You will:Your role goes beyond delivery: you will contribute to continuous improvement, act as a subject-matter expert, and influence broader engineering practices across teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain FPGA firmware in VHDL for data acquisition and real-time processing
- Integrate FPGA logic with embedded systems, acquisition boards, and host interfaces
- Perform commissioning and bring-up of FPGA-based systems on prototypes and production hardware
- Develop and maintain automated test and validation flows using Quartus simulation and test tools
- Support debugging and validation at FPGA and system level
- Optimize designs with respect to timing, resource usage, latency, and robustness
- Contribute to hardware / firmware co-design in collaboration with hardware engineers
- Document architectures, interfaces, and design choices to ensure maintainability and knowledge sharing
- Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, and software teams and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices
Qualifications
Training and experience
- Master's degree or engineering school
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience, excluding internships and apprenticeships.
Core Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of FPGA design using VHDL
- Experience with Intel/Altera or Xilinx FPGA tools, simulation, and automated test tools
- Solid understanding of digital design, timing constraints, and resource optimization
- Experience with FPGA commissioning, bring-up, and hardware debugging
- Knowledge of embedded systems architectures and FPGA integration with processors and acquisition hardware
- Familiarity with hardware interfaces (SPI, I²C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS, etc.)
- Experience with testbench development, simulation, and validation methodologies
- Basic knowledge of C/C++ for low-level tools, testing, or FPGA/software interfacing
Development & Industrial Practices
- Ability to work within industrial development processes and quality constraints
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and structured development workflows
- Capability to produce clear and maintainable technical documentation
Languages
- Fluent English (mandatory)
Additional Information
- Location: Baden Airpark/Baden-Baden
- Employment type: Full-time, permanent position
- Salary: Starting from €48K (depending on experience)
- Working hours: 8-hour shifts, daytime work
- no remote working
