About the role

Job Summary

The Test Lead / Lab Manager will support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the development, verification, and validation of Flight Software (FSW) for the DAVINCI Descent Sphere (DS). This role provides hands‑on technical leadership across test planning, procedure development, execution, and reporting to ensure mission readiness and compliance with NASA software engineering standards. In addition, the position serves as the Lead Lab Manager responsible for DS FSW lab equipment management, asset accountability, and calibration/certification tracking.

Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD (on‑site in the DS FSW Lab, Building 23)

Primary Duties

Flight Software Test Leadership

  • Lead planning and execution of FSW verification activities supporting DS FSW development efforts.
  • Coordinate unit, integration, and system level test activities to support incremental FSW builds.
  • Ensure testing aligns with mission requirements, operational constraints, and NASA quality standards.

Test Procedure Development & Execution

  • Develop detailed test procedures for DS FSW build verification and acceptance testing.
  • Execute test procedures in the DS FSW lab environment and document objective evidence.
  • Support anomaly resolution through defect reporting, reproduction, triage, and retest.

Requirements Traceability & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain Requirements to Test Traceability Matrices (RTTM) to ensure full coverage.
  • Produce test reports, test summaries, and supporting verification documentation.
  • Support audits and lifecycle reviews through clear test evidence and compliance documentation.

Configuration, Process, and Quality Compliance

  • Ensure test artifacts and workflows comply with project Configuration Management practices.
  • Perform work in alignment with NPR 7150.2 and applicable GSFC procedural requirements.
  • Track technical and schedule risks, recommend corrective actions, and support mitigation planning.

Lab Management (Lead Lab Manager Responsibilities)

  • Maintain accurate records of all DS FSW ADP equipment purchased and utilized in the lab environment.
  • Ensure lab equipment certifications and calibration stickers are current and properly documented.
  • Coordinate lab readiness activities to support continuous integration, development, and test execution.
  • Support lab organization, equipment accountability, and compliance with NASA facility expectations.

Requirements

Reporting Requirements

  • Provide weekly status updates summarizing accomplishments, milestones, risks, and customer coordination.
  • Provide monthly performance reporting describing technical progress, schedule performance, and cost‑related reporting support.

Technical Skills

  • Experience supporting flight software verification and validation activities for complex systems.
  • Experience developing test procedures, executing tests, and producing test documentation.
  • Familiarity with requirements‑based testing, traceability, and formal test reporting.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management practices in a government or aerospace environment.
  • Ability to support integration testing and coordinate test readiness within a lab environment.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Ability to lead test execution activities and coordinate with NASA civil servants and contractors.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to track and communicate risks, schedule impacts, and corrective action recommendations.

Relevant Experience

  • 12 years of relevant experience.

Education / Certification

  • A bachelor's degree in software engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).

Security Clearance

  • Ability to obtain National Agency Check Inquiry (NACI) personal background check.
