About the role
Our client, a leading player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is seeking a strategic and analytical FMCG Category Manager to join their dynamic team in Upington, Northern Cape, ZA. This role is essential for driving category growth, profitability, and market share.
Responsibilities
The FMCG Category Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of specific product categories within the retail environment. This involves developing and executing category strategies aligned with consumer insights and market trends. Key responsibilities include analyzing sales data, market performance, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. You will manage product assortment, pricing, promotions, and merchandising strategies to optimize sales and profitability. Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms, and ensuring the timely availability of products are also critical aspects of the role.
You will work closely with the sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure cohesive execution of category plans. Developing promotional calendars, managing budgets, and measuring the effectiveness of category initiatives against key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales volume, market share, and profit margins will be central to your work. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the FMCG market, consumer behavior, and retail dynamics. Strong analytical skills, excellent negotiation abilities, and a strategic mindset are required. You should be proficient in using data analysis tools and possess strong financial acumen. The ability to translate data into actionable insights and develop compelling business cases is essential. Excellent communication and presentation skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field; a Master's degree is advantageous.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in category management, brand management, or a related role within the FMCG industry.
- Proven track record of driving category growth and achieving sales targets.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis and interpretation (e.g., Nielsen, IRI).
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- Solid understanding of retail operations and supply chain principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
