Most “platform” roles are internal tooling and dashboards.

This isn’t that.

A founder-led team is building foundation models for biology.

The bottleneck isn’t ideas. It’s data and the systems around it.

Right now, most biological data is:

• fragmented
• inconsistent
• not usable for training at scale

Your job is to fix that.

What you’ll actually do

• Turn raw, messy biological datasets into training-ready inputs
• Build ingestion, indexing, and retrieval systems that don’t fall over at scale
• Own the data layer across training and inference
• Remove bottlenecks across GPU, storage, and data loading
• Make datasets reproducible, versioned, and trustworthy
• Build systems that researchers and ML engineers actually want to use

This will suit you if

• You’ve built real systems, not just APIs
• You’ve dealt with data that doesn’t fit in memory
• You care about performance, not just correctness
• You’ve hit scaling limits and had to rethink architecture
• You prefer owning problems over maintaining them

You probably won’t enjoy this if

• You want clearly defined scope and stable requirements
• You’ve only worked on product/backend layers
• You haven’t worked close to data or infrastructure
• You need everything abstracted away
• Likes to work in large scale organisations
