The Engineering Team

In our engineering team, we build the infrastructure, interfaces, and applications to provide first‑class service to our members, health professionals, and even ourselves!

Enabling Global‑First Product Development

In Alan's early expansion, we created separate codebases for each country (France, Belgium, Spain, Canada) to quickly adapt to unique healthcare and regulatory requirements.

In 2024 we reached a crucial point where merging these codebases into global, configurable modules became essential. Writing local code is still easier than building global solutions. The Global Architecture team is central to this transformation — our goal is to enable any team at Alan to develop and launch features seamlessly across markets, as outlined in our 2025 technical strategy.

• Remove Technical Blockers for Product Teams – Tackle technical blockers that cut across several domains and eliminate the need for team‑specific workarounds.
• Orchestrate Data Transformations – Implement strategies to harmonize different countries' data models without losing local flexibility and consolidate existing data into unified schemas.
• Build and Own What You Create – Be responsible for the entire lifecycle of your solutions, from initial design through long‑term maintenance.

• You write code and maintain what you build. At Alan there is no architect in an ivory tower; we implement what we design.
• Ability to navigate complex systems spanning multiple business domains and technical boundaries.
• Experience with diverse architectural patterns and ability to articulate nuanced trade‑offs.
• Skill in spotting technical obstacles that block multiple teams and designing solutions to remove them.

We are looking for problem‑solver engineers with 5+ years of experience who get excited about simplifying complex business problems:

• Tackle high‑impact & high‑risk projects involving many engineers.
• Design efficient systems and engineering practices to align with and facilitate interactions between multiple teams/products.
• Mentor other engineers & lead crews (more details in the linked article).
• Contribute to hiring future coworkers and shape candidates’ hiring experience (improving our technical assessment process, etc.).

You would be a good fit if most of this sounds like you:

• Well‑versed in Object Oriented Programming such as Python, Java, C#, and enthusiastic about web technologies such as modern JavaScript.
• Willing to work in Python/JavaScript (but you don’t need to have experience with those two languages!).
• Passionate about building products.
• Self‑starting and entrepreneurial.
• Humble and still willing to grow (no matter your seniority!).
• Collaborative, enthusiastic about teamwork, learning, and teaching.
• Fluent in English (no need to speak French!).
