Fund Accountant

We’re looking for a skilled Retirement Fund Accountant to join our team and play a key role in managing fund operations, ensuring compliance, and delivering high-quality financial reporting. Education • Matric (Grade 12) - Essential • Relevant Accounting Degree or Tertiary Qualification in Commerce/Finance - Essential • Currently studying towards a Commerce/Finance qualification

Experience • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Retirement Fund accounting • Strong knowledge of the retirement fund industry • Proven Retirement Fund accounting skills • Experience either within the retirement fund industry or as a Retirement Fund Accountant • Strong Excel functionality skills

Key Responsibilities

Operational Effectiveness • Manage bank accounts, ensuring balances are justified and investment/disinvestment instructions are processed timeously • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for cash, investments, and clearing accounts per fund • Compile monthly Trustee Cashflow reports • Ensure timely payment of fees, payroll expenses, and premiums • Process ad-hoc invoices within 3 days of receipt • Complete quarterly fund reviews within 45 days of quarter-end for Reserve Bank submission • Prepare high-quality financial statements at least 2 weeks before audit commencement • Ensure financial statements are released to clients within 4 months and submitted to FSCA within 6 months post year-end • Resolve Asset and Liability Matching queries monthly with no significant issues • Prepare and maintain closure-ready funds with appropriate training and guidance • Resolve FSCA queries within 30 days of receipt • Achieve 100% compliance rating on internal audits • Embrace technological advancements to maximize operational efficiency • Store all documents on SharePoint or server; avoid saving on desktops • Adhere strictly to procedures to prevent potential PI claims • Avoid FSCA penalties during review periods • Manage individual and audit-related expenses to prevent overruns

Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) • Deliver duties in alignment with TCF outcomes • Proactively raise concerns about TCF shortcomings • Take ownership of any errors or oversights that may impact TCF outcomes

Competencies • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; familiarity with in-house systems is advantageous • Strong planning and time management skills • Ability to deliver value-added services • In-depth knowledge of the Retirement Fund industry
