The Role

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the General Manager will provide leadership across IT strategy, systems engineering, digital platforms, cybersecurity, and broadcast technology operations.

This role will lead multidisciplinary technical teams and oversee complex technology environments that support multi-platform content delivery, digital platforms, enterprise systems, and critical infrastructure.

Key Focus Areas

Strategic Technology Leadership

• Develop and implement the organisation’s IT strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Establish technology governance frameworks, policies, and enterprise architecture standards.
• Align enterprise IT, broadcast engineering, and digital platforms within a unified technology strategy.
• Identify and mitigate technology risks while ensuring regulatory and cybersecurity compliance.

Operational Excellence

• Oversee enterprise IT systems, infrastructure, networks, and digital platforms.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of mission-critical systems.
• Manage broadcast engineering environments including studio systems, transmission infrastructure, and playout systems.
• Implement robust business continuity and disaster recovery frameworks.

Digital Transformation & Innovation

• Lead enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives.
• Implement emerging technologies including cloud, IP-based broadcasting, automation, AI, and data analytics.
• Drive development of streaming platforms, mobile applications, CMS platforms, and digital media pipelines.
• Enable seamless content delivery across TV, web, mobile, streaming, and social platforms.

Cybersecurity & Technology Risk

• Lead enterprise cybersecurity frameworks and risk management programmes.
• Oversee threat detection, vulnerability management, and incident response.
• Protect critical assets including content, systems, intellectual property, and audience data.

Financial & Vendor Management

• Manage technology budgets, capital investments, and operational expenditure.
• Oversee vendor relationships with technology providers, infrastructure partners, and service providers.
• Ensure delivery of projects within scope, timeline, and budget.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Lead and develop a high-performing technical team including engineers, developers, IT specialists, and cybersecurity professionals.
• Collaborate closely with executive leadership, editorial, commercial, and operational teams.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technology solutions that drive measurable value.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• National Diploma in a relevant technology discipline.
• National Senior Certificate.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years’ management experience within technology environments.
• Strong experience in enterprise IT strategy, systems architecture, digital platforms, or technical operations.
• Exposure to broadcast engineering, media technology, or complex digital platform ecosystems is advantageous.
