About
The organisation is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced General Manager: Marketing and Communications to provide strategic leadership and drive audience growth and brand positioning.
Objective of the Position
To provide strategic leadership in marketing, communications, brand management, audience development, and stakeholder engagement across the organisation. The role is responsible for strengthening the organisation's reputation, increasing audience numbers and revenue, and aligning artistic, commercial, community, and shareholder priorities.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
- Degree (NQF Level 7) in Marketing, Communications Management, Arts Management, or related
- 10 years' experience in marketing and communications within the entertainment, events, or arts and culture sector
- At least 5 years' experience at senior management or strategic level
- Proven track record in growing ticket sales and audience numbers
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
- In-depth knowledge of global contemporary theatre trends
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Campaign management
- Content creation
- Brand management
- Stakeholder communication
- Strong digital marketing and social media expertise
- Excellent writing, proposal development, and presentation skills
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Experience in municipal budget preparation and financial management
Primary Function
- Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to enhance brand awareness, audience growth, and customer loyalty.
- Oversee all internal and external communications to ensure consistency and impact.
- Manage content creation and distribution across all digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in marketing, communications, brand management, and audience development
- Advise executive management and the Board on brand positioning and stakeholder engagement
- Align marketing strategies with corporate and municipal objectives
- Serve as custodian of all JCT brands
- Lead reputation management and crisis communication initiatives
- Oversee market research, brand audits, and strategic insights
- Drive ticket sales, loyalty programmes, and audience growth strategies
- Expand audience reach across diverse communities, including youth and township markets
- Lead digital strategy, social media, CRM, and content development
- Monitor and evaluate marketing and communication performance
- Build and maintain relationships with media, sponsors, government, and partners
- Act as spokesperson when required
- Manage departmental budgets and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Lead and develop the marketing and communications team, including performance management and succession planning
