General Manager, Projects
The Mullings Group
About the role
About
The Mullings Group has partnered with our client on the confidential search for a General Manager, Projects to work out of their office in the Greater Toronto Area.
The General Manager, Projects will hold overall responsibility for leading the Projects Group across the Americas, overseeing the full execution phase of the project development lifecycle including FEED, EP, EPC, and EPCM delivery. Reporting directly to the President, this is an existing role that owns project performance across cost, schedule, safety, and quality while managing a team of senior managers spanning project delivery, construction, project controls, and procurement and contracts.
Beyond execution, the GM will drive business development support through proposal oversight, client relationship management, and commercial and contract negotiation. The role also carries accountability for resource planning and workforce development across a growing, multi office operation. This is not a figurehead position. The successful candidate must be capable of stepping into a hands on Project Director capacity on strategically critical projects while simultaneously building group capability through mentoring, succession planning, and continuous improvement of project delivery systems and standards.
Responsibilities
- Own overall delivery performance (cost, schedule, safety, quality) for all EPCM execution projects across the Americas business unit.
- Lead and develop a team of approximately 120 people through four senior managers spanning project delivery, construction, project controls, and procurement and contracts.
- Serve as the senior client interface above project managers, including escalation point and relationship management.
- Step into a hands on Project Director or Senior Project Manager role on strategically critical projects when required.
- Act as project sponsor for specific projects by mutual agreement with the President, or actively participate in sponsor meetings and ensure outcomes are actioned within the group.
- Support technical business development through client presentations, pre-bid site visits, and senior-level relationship development with key prospects.
- Oversee scope, budget, and schedule development for major EPC/EPCM project proposals in coordination with the commercial group.
- Support negotiation and finalization of head contracts in coordination with commercial, legal, and finance teams.
- Drive resource planning, workforce development, mentoring, and succession planning across a multi-office operation.
- Lead the group’s input into company-wide workload forecasting and resource planning, coordinating monthly updates across operating groups.
- Chair monthly project reviews, compile operations dashboards and reports, and deliver weekly updates to senior leadership.
- Review and approve project execution plans, capital cost estimates, schedules, HSE plans, and procurement tenderer lists.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s quality system, gateway review procedures, and change management requirements.
Qualifications
- University degree in Engineering from a recognized institution.
- P.Eng. designation in Ontario or equivalent in another Canadian province.
- 15+ years post-graduate experience in mineral processing or related industries.
- Demonstrated EPCM project management experience with a hands on delivery track record.
- Strong knowledge of mineral processing plant design and construction.
- Proven client relationship management and communication skills at a senior level.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices or geographies.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to adapt to different commercial models and business environments.
- Gold, African, and Canadian project experience is desirable.
