ROLE

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Geomatics Manager at NBM Engineering to lead and grow the department. The Geomatics Manager will be responsible for technical oversight, staff development, operational performance, and strategic growth. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people management and process improvement.

The role is based in Oakville, ON.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and develop NBM’s Geomatics Department, including surveyors, technologists, technicians, and field crews.
  • Establish team structure, role clarity, training plans, and succession planning to support department growth.
  • Provide technical oversight for surveying, mapping, LiDAR, UAV, and GNSS‑based geomatics services.
  • Review and approve survey methodologies, workflows, and deliverables to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with CSA S250, utility standards, municipal requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Coordinate geomatics resources, scheduling, and workload forecasting in support of active projects.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and performance management of geomatics staff.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex boundary, utility, or geospatial data issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, and Project Management teams to integrate geomatics deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvement in geomatics processes, templates, tools, and digital workflows.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and technical input for new geomatics opportunities.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact with clients, utilities, municipalities, and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee field safety practices, regulatory compliance, and adherence to NBM’s health and safety policies.
  • Contribute to development of departmental KPIs, reporting, and performance metrics.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in surveying and geomatics, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of surveying, GIS, LiDAR, UAVs, and utility‑related geomatics services.
  • Experience working within hydro utility, telecommunications, municipal, or infrastructure environments.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage workloads, and develop staff.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Professional licensure or certification (P.Eng., OLS, C.Tech., or equivalent) is considered an asset.

COMPENSATION

Expected Compensation: $80,000–$130,000 annually plus benefits
