About

This role will support a department-wide initiative to identify, consolidate, and modernize compliance procedures across multiple teams and a broad range of technologies and devices. The goal is to reduce fragmentation, eliminate duplicate procedures, and ensure compliance activities are consistently documented, maintained, and updated.

The Technical Writer will play a key role in aligning procedures with a centralized Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platform to improve standardization, transparency, and audit readiness across the organization. Responsibilities include streamlining procedural content, reducing the overall number of procedures, and helping establish a sustainable framework to ensure documentation remains current, accurate, and consistently maintained over time.

This initiative is intended to reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and create a scalable, reliable compliance framework that supports long-term operational and regulatory success across participating teams.

Requirements

Top 3 Required Skills

  • Compliance knowledge, preferably NERC CIP or similar regulatory/compliance frameworks
  • Procedure writing and technical writing skills
  • Project coordination and/or project management skills

Soft Skills/Team Fit

  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure assets such as Windows devices, hardened appliances, switches, firewalls, and related technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead, collaborate, and work effectively across cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, develop task sequences, and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency and assignment output
  • Familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) applications and platforms

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of directly related experience as a Technical Writer in a technical or regulated environment
  • Experience supporting compliance initiatives, preferably within NERC CIP or similar regulatory, cybersecurity, risk, or governance frameworks
  • Experience developing technical procedures, process documentation, and operational standards
  • Project coordination or project management experience preferred

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a related field:

  • Technical Communication or Technical Writing
  • Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical disciplines
  • English, Professional Writing, Communications, Business, or Science with strong technical writing experience

Preferred Industry Experience

  • NERC CIP Compliance or similar regulatory/compliance environments
  • Utilities, energy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, or other highly regulated industries

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be local to Richmond, VA.
  • W2 only; no C2C
  • The hourly rate for this position is $45.41.
