About the role

Introduction

Our client, based in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town, offers Accounting, Tax and Auditing services. They are currently looking for a Graduate Tax Trainee to join their dynamic team.

Job Purpose

To support the tax department in providing accurate tax compliance, advisory support, and regulatory reporting while developing specialist knowledge in taxation.

The role is designed for a recent Honours graduate who intends to build a career specialising in tax.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities • Assist with the preparation and submission of corporate, individual, and indirect tax returns. • Support the tax team in ensuring compliance with relevant tax legislation and regulations. • Conduct tax research on legislation, case law, and regulatory updates. • Assist with tax planning and advisory projects under supervision. • Prepare tax calculations and reconciliations. • Support responses to tax authority queries and audits. • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation. • Assist with preparation of tax reports and schedules for internal and external stakeholders. • Keep up to date with changes in tax laws and regulatory requirements. • Participate in professional development and training programs related to taxation.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements • Honours degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field. • Strong academic background in taxation and accounting principles. • Basic understanding of tax legislation and compliance requirements. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications • Postgraduate qualification or coursework in Taxation. • Intention to pursue a professional qualification (e.g., South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT), or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)).
