About the role

ROLE PURPOSE

The Head of Business Development & Marketing is responsible for developing markets, generating demand, and building a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities to support BFG Africa’s growth ambitions. The role drives market awareness, customer engagement, and early-stage opportunity development, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality, commercially viable opportunities for conversion by the Commercial function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Market Development & Opportunity Creation

  • Identify and develop new markets, sectors, and applications for FRP solutions
  • Drive adoption of FRP in industries replacing traditional materials
  • Establish early engagement with potential clients and stakeholders
  • Build strategic relationships before formal commercial engagement

Focus: Create opportunities before they become deals

Demand Generation & Pipeline Building

  • Design and execute demand generation strategies
  • Generate qualified leads across key sectors:
    • Rail & transport
    • Municipal infrastructure
    • Utilities & water
    • Construction & industrial markets
  • Build and maintain a strong, qualified pipeline aligned with growth targets

Focus: Volume + quality of pipeline

FRP Market Positioning & Brand Leadership

  • Position BFG Africa as a leader in FRP solutions
  • Drive awareness of FRP benefits vs traditional materials
  • Lead industry education and market shaping initiatives
  • Establish thought leadership in FRP technology

Value Proposition & Solution Framing

  • Develop compelling, sector-specific FRP value propositions
  • Translate technical features into business benefits:
    • Theft reduction
    • Corrosion resistance
    • Lifecycle cost savings
    • Sustainability
  • Support early-stage solution conceptualisation with clients

Focus: Make the opportunity commercially attractive before handover

Go-To-Market & Campaign Leadership

  • Lead go-to-market strategies for new and existing products
  • Execute targeted campaigns aligned to growth sectors
  • Develop sales enablement tools:
    • Case studies
    • Technical brochures
    • Comparison guides

Market Intelligence, Analysis & Insights

  • Conduct detailed market analysis across sectors, competitors and substitute materials
  • Analyse market size, growth potential and demand drivers for FRP applications
  • Identify new opportunities, gaps and emerging trends
  • Monitor pricing, competitor positioning and industry dynamics
  • Provide actionable insights to:
    • Commercial (pricing, targeting, strategy)
    • Technical & Engineering (product development and innovation)

Digital, PR & Industry Presence

  • Own brand visibility across digital platforms
  • Lead participation in industry events and exhibitions
  • Build BFG Africa’s reputation as an FRP thought leader

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Engineering or related field (MBA advantageous)
  • 5–7 years’ experience in business development and/or strategic marketing within industrial, manufacturing or infrastructure sectors
  • Proven track record in developing new markets, generating demand, and building qualified pipelines
  • Experience in positioning technical or engineered products and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Strong exposure to cross-functional collaboration with Commercial and Technical teams
