Head of Engineering Business Applications 80 - 100%
Brack.Alltron AG
About the role
About Us
We are one of the leading online shops in Switzerland for both B2C and B2B – a nearly unique combination in Europe. Behind this is one of the most modern logistics operations on the continent: highly automated, scalable, and with further expansion potential.
With us, you'll find plenty of scope for design in an environment characterized by ambition, personal responsibility, and passion. We celebrate successes, and we learn from mistakes. We value direct, honest feedback because we all want to keep learning more. This creates a culture of trust, knowledge sharing, and the courage to truly drive things forward.
What to expect
With your positive personality, you will not only shape an engineering culture and organization but also actively shape the e-commerce of tomorrow. You will lead six dedicated, cross-functional product teams and, together with them, be responsible for scalable solutions with real impact for our customers and central company processes.
- You can expect plenty of scope for design and the chance to sustainably shape an engineering organization, from working methods and technology/architecture decisions to the further development of teams and leaders.
- You will coach, develop, and empower the team leads in your area with humanity, clarity, and tact, so they can independently lead effective teams and strategically develop roles, responsibilities, and decision-making spaces.
- Together with the Head of Product, you will shape product-oriented and agile development processes, maintain focus on business goals, and establish a data-informed way of working.
- You will work in suitable forms of Scrum or Kanban. Engineers actively contribute to refinements, architectural questions, and product discussions.
- Together with the Enterprise Architect, you will shape the software architecture of the entire area and contribute your perspective to technical conception.
- Yes, we also have enough legacy. That's precisely part of the exciting challenge. You will navigate technical trade-offs confidently, make pragmatic decisions, actively shape the future with a lot of implementation skill, and keep the can-do spirit alive in the team.
- You will be part of the technology leadership team and, together with your peers, shape the strategic direction and technical vision of the entire engineering organization.

What you bring
You strongly identify with a culture where:
- Technical full-stack thinking, pair programming, whiteboard sessions, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD with multiple productive releases per day are normal. Teams take true end-to-end responsibility in the sense of "You build it, you run it".
- Servant leadership, benevolent feedback, and the targeted development of people and organizations go hand in hand.
- Product works closely with engineering, wants to understand problems in depth, lives true agility, focuses on MVPs, short iterations, and fast learning, and consistently makes decisions from the user and business perspective.
We are a good fit if you:
- Have experience in domains such as purchasing, product data, logistics, or ERP, or are generally familiar with the environment of business applications and e-commerce.
- Not only know the described culture but live it, coach it, and anchor it in the organization, contributing to a strong team culture with appreciative communication, warmth, and a good dose of humor.
- Are a great coach and role model for the team leads and the organization.
- Approach complex topics with perseverance and resilience, and are perceived as a motivating beacon even in challenging situations.
- Define the AI tooling strategy, create the architectural prerequisites, and establish best software practices, for example, through automated code reviews. Tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code are effectively used in your teams' daily work.
- Understand concepts like DDD, Clean Architecture, Event-Driven Architecture, SOLID, Feature Flags, or Dependency Injection as tools that you systematically establish in the organization. At the same time, you have a solid understanding of distributed systems and DevOps practices.
- Lead based on data: Deployment frequency, lead time, and incident recovery are signals, not goals, for you. You understand OKRs as a tool to exert targeted influence.
- Have at least 10 years of experience in modern software development, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Speak German and English.
We probably won't be a good fit if you:
- Prefer frameworks like SAFe or think in classic project structures and specifications.
- Have primarily worked in highly regulated environments and have little experience in fast-paced, product-oriented organizations with large distributed systems.
- Feel more comfortable in role models where infrastructure, backend, frontend, testing, and product thinking are strictly separated.
- Prefer to receive requirements rather than sharpening them together with Product Management and truly understanding customers.
- Lack an infinite hunger for knowledge to constantly learn new things.
- Are more frustrated than motivated by imperfect systems – Spoiler: We're not there yet.
- Strictly separate work and good mood.
