Role – Receiving Inspection (RI) Head
Designation – Section Head
Job Purpose
- To ensure smooth working of all Receiving Inspection labs with timely clearance of material to avoid any Line Loss by monitoring adequate inspection equipment’s, manpower etc.
- To lead & drive Receipt Inspection activity of all labs and ensure timely upgradation of systemic compliance requirement towards NEI Quality standards.
- To plan alignment between NEI and Suppliers for desired qualitative output, identify improvement opportunities to meet them and drive process improvements.
- To establish inspection practices and measurement harmonization with existing as well newly developed components/suppliers and drive audits of existing products to develop supplier capability & process.
- To support internal stake holders like Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Metallurgy, Quality, R & D, NPD teams, SD, SQA & other external stake holders.
Principal Accountabilities
GRN clearance
- Planned way clearance of GRN for sampling inspection items
- Zero nonconformance in inspected items
- Prioritize disposition of NPD samples, expedited material and controlled batch
- GRN Clearance % in stipulated timeline
SCAR review
- Review root cause analysis data and provide feedback to prevent line stops due to quality issues and monitor next lots with proper verification
- Repeat issue reduction
Reducing issue count from internal/external customers (supplier related issues)
- Tracking systemic closure of supplier related faults with SQA
- Driving standardization and horizontal deployment of permanent measures at applicable suppliers
- Alignment of defect nature with customers
- Improving inspection plan to align customer and management requirement
- GRN reject %
- Shop and customer complaint count
Document control & Revision
- Regular reviews on documents (Inspection plan, Control plan, AQL) and update of document and share with internal stake holders
- Initial sample development at supplier end considering measurement alignment & ensure timely clearance
- Document review and update in line with organization requirement
- Measurement alignment
Departmental efficiency improvement
- Improvement projects associated to TAT reduction (GRN clearance), reliability improvement (GR&R improvement), multi gauging, traceability, etc.
- Repeat issue reduction through improvement project on critical issues and suppliers
- Measurement alignment between NEI and supplier
- Data analytics to prepare dashboard over KPIs and make data based decision making
- Coordinate activities with SQA & SD team to evaluate and resolve technically challenging engineering and quality-related problems encountered in assigned area.
- Identify anomalies on engineering drawings back to the design function

- Identifying developmental needs of team and build improvement mechanism
- Development & deployment of e-modules for learning in collaboration with HR

Major Challenges

- Adhering to the New Product development Timelines wit samples inspection result release.
- Supplier quality variability – maintaining multi-level interaction and focus on bad suppliers
- Supporting multiple plants at same time when NC occurs
- Handling pressure from Production, SCM and Procurement
- Skill gaps in team to achieve vision of zero-defect
- Managing quarantine area and always stay audit ready

Skills and Knowledge
Educational Qualifications / Technical Training / Certifications
- Graduate in Engineering (B.Tech. or B.E.), preferably from Mechanical and Automotive stream
Relevant and Total Years of Experience
- 12+ years of experience in Automotive industry, in Quality Assurance function and 8+ years in receiving inspection and supplier improvement role.
- Further preference will be given to association with bearing manufacturing industry.
Functional Skills
- Basic know-how of bearing as product and manufacturing process
- Knowledge of engineering drawing
- Measurement & Metrology: GD&T, tolerance analysis, calibration, comparator gauges, contour and optical profile gauge
- Quality Core Tools: Control Plan, PFMEA (linkages), PPAP documentation, MSA (GR&R), SPC (Cp/Cpk, control charts)
