Human Technical Editor
Upwork
About the role
About the Role
I am looking for a human technical editor (Native English proficiency is required) to help refine the early-stage writing for my Doctor of Engineering Praxis. This is not a general proofreading task. I need someone who can strengthen the technical clarity, academic structure, research logic, and professional tone of my praxis writing.
The immediate scope is to review and improve approximately 1,500 to 2,000 words covering the following sections:
- Research Topic
- Problem Statement
- Thesis Statement
- Research Questions
- Hypotheses
The turnaround time for this first assignment is 3 days.
My proposed research topic is designing and empirically validating an interpretable deep learning credit-scoring framework using Neural Additive Models for microenterprise credit risk assessment, benchmarked against logistic regression and evaluated under Model Risk Management requirements, including performance, interpretability, fairness, bias, and discriminatory impact.
What I Need
I need an editor who can help make the writing:
- Clear, concise, and suitable for a Doctor of Engineering Praxis
- Aligned with applied research rather than purely theoretical Ph.D.-style research
- Coherent across the topic, problem statement, thesis statement, research questions, and hypotheses
- Strong enough to clearly articulate the intended engineering contribution and identify where the current framing may appear too narrow, incremental, or merely an application of an existing algorithm to a new dataset.
This work may include restructuring sentences, improving terminology, tightening arguments, identifying logical gaps, and making the writing more defensible for academic review.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal freelancer should have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Doctoral-level academic editing
- Engineering, applied research, or professional doctorate writing
- Machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science
- Editing research questions, hypotheses, and problem statements
Experience with Doctor of Engineering, DBA, EdD, or other applied doctoral programs is highly preferred.
Deliverables
For this first assignment, I expect:
- A revised version of the submitted sections
- Comments or tracked changes explaining major edits
- Identification of weak logic, unclear claims, or unsupported assumptions
- Suggestions to make the praxis contribution stronger and more applied
- Improved alignment between the research topic, problem statement, research questions, and hypotheses
Important Requirement
I am specifically looking for a human technical editor, not AI-generated rewriting. You may use editing tools if needed, but the final work must reflect human academic judgment, domain understanding, and editorial reasoning.
Future Work
If the first assignment is satisfactory, I expect to continue with additional writing and editing tasks for the broader praxis document.
Application Instructions
In your proposal, please include:
- Your experience editing doctoral or applied research writing
- Your familiarity with machine learning, credit risk, or model governance
- One or two examples of similar work you have edited, if available
- Your availability for a 3-day turnaround (you must deliver no later than Jun 10, 2026)
- Your proposed fixed price for editing approximately 1,500 to 2,000 words
Please begin your proposal with the phrase “Human Technical Editor” so I know you have read the full job description.
