HVAC Engineer / Building Systems Engineer Job Summary

Pay: $50 to $53 per hr

Location: Virginia (multi-site fieldwork required, ~75% of time in the field)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial buildings.
  • Conduct quality control inspections of contractor work.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, design documents, and specifications.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Manage projects, including multi-million-dollar HVAC programs ($2M+ annually).
  • Enforce regulatory compliance (Virginia Building Code, OSHA, EPA, DEQ).
  • Operate and oversee building automation systems (Trane, Siemens, Automated Logic, Delta).
  • Provide leadership and training to staff, including managing contractors.

HVAC Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture or related area, or equivalent combination of education, training, and recent, relevant industry experience is required.
  • Master HVAC License preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of professional engineering experience (7+ years preferred for ideal candidate).
  • 7+ years managing HVAC systems in commercial buildings, including supervisory experience.
  • Skilled in energy-efficient HVAC design and LEED standards.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Comfortable with climbing ladders/stairs, wearing PPE, and working in varied conditions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
