Information Security Engineer Intern

Job Purpose:

The Cybersecurity Engineer at Sourceworx is pivotal in securing the company’s digital assets, playing a key role in every phase of cybersecurity from design to implementation and ongoing refinement. Their responsibilities span identifying system vulnerabilities, implementing advanced security solutions, and conducting continuous assessments to proactively mitigate risks. This includes managing firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and monitoring network activity to thwart emerging threats. In collaboration with the Information Security Manager, the engineer significantly influences the development of robust security policies and strategies, ensuring they align with industry standards like ISO 27001 and GDPR. Their role is not just technical but also educational, as they are instrumental in raising cybersecurity awareness within the organisation. By training employees in best practices and alerting them to new threats, the Cybersecurity Engineer is essential in cultivating a culture of vigilance and preparedness, fortifying Sourceworx’s defenses against an ever-evolving cyber threat landscape.

Key Performance Areas:

• Perform vulnerability testing, security checks, and establish a threat analysis schedule. • Conduct ongoing research on cybersecurity criteria, staying abreast of validation procedures, security systems, and emerging threats. • Monitor internet safety issues and collaborate with departments for cohesive solutions. • Deliver technical reports with actionable preventive solutions. • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive cybersecurity strategies and policies. • Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and continuous monitoring of systems and networks. • Participate in the management and configuration of security tools and software. • Play an active role in the incident response team to address security breaches and potential threats. • Collaborate in post-incident analysis to improve future security measures. • Maintain an in-depth understanding of ethical hacking and coding standards. • Knowledgeable in potential threats like social engineering, phishing, and network access. • Conduct penetration testing to evaluate system security and vulnerabilities. • Work cohesively with other security personnel for complete client protection. • Educate the broader organization on technical subjects and best practices. • Provide expert consultancy services to various clients on cybersecurity matters, including risk assessments, security strategy formulation, and best practices. • Spearhead digital forensics investigations for clients, encompassing data retrieval, analysis of digital evidence, and providing insights on security breaches. • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, offering tailored advice and solutions that meet their unique security needs and challenges. • Stay informed about the latest trends and developments in cybersecurity and digital forensics to ensure consultancy services are up-to-date and effective. • Deliver presentations and workshops to clients on cybersecurity awareness, threat landscape, and protective measures. • Work collaboratively with client teams to integrate cybersecurity and digital forensics practices into their operations, enhancing their overall security posture. • Provide detailed reports and recommendations to clients post-consultation, ensuring clarity in findings and action plans.

Essential Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree/diploma in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, or a related field. • Professional certifications in cybersecurity (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Az-500, Sc-200, SC-100) are advantageous. • Proficiency in operating systems, programming languages, and encryption techniques. • Familiarity with Microsoft security products and services. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication skills • Excellent Problem-Solving Abilities • Must have a customer-centric approach • Improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Lean can be beneficial
