Your Role
Working within the Strategic Growth department and reporting to the Manager, Economic Growth, the Economic Growth Specialist delivers technical support, programs and services that advance business investment and growth with a primary focus on new and local businesses.
This position will be solutions-focused in delivering regulatory information and pathfinding services to business owners as they navigate the County’s permit processes, as well as identifying and referring to other business support services.
Guided by Parkland County’s strategic plan, the Economic Growth Specialist will lead public education programs and service delivery improvements, using an equity lens, to support a vibrant and prosperous business community and further the County’s reputation as business friendly.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Education: Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Economic Development, Arts, or a related field. A Degree in a related field would be considered an asset.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in economic growth and/or business attraction & retention.
- Assets:
- Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Alberta Professional Planning Institute (APPI), or Alberta Development.
- Public engagement/participation certificate.
- Familiarity with planning and development permit processes, the Municipal Government Act, Zoning Bylaws and Alberta Safety Code and other relevant statutory plans, policies, procedures, and bylaws.
- Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, active listening and negotiation skills.
- Strong relationship-building skills, customer service skills and the ability to remain diplomatic and tactful when dealing with the public.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint, and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new programs.
Requirements
- Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, AB.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license and current, satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

- Starting Salary: $83,100 to $93,500 per year
- Max Salary Potential: $105,200 per year
