Infrastructure Operations Engineer

Introduction

An organisation is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Operations Engineer to support and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure environments across both on-premise and cloud platforms.

This role focuses on infrastructure operations, virtualization technologies, Windows server administration, networking, cloud technologies, disaster recovery, and enterprise systems support. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining stable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure environments while ensuring alignment with operational standards, service requirements, and best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

Infrastructure Operations & Support

• Plan, implement, and maintain system configurations across infrastructure environments.
• Provide 3rd line technical support and perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Capture, analyse, categorise, and prioritise support requests from users and monitoring tools.
• Maintain and support live production systems across physical and virtualised environments.
• Install, maintain, and monitor systems running on both physical and virtual infrastructure platforms.
• Support incident management, change management, and asset management processes.

Windows & Microsoft Technologies

• Administer and support Windows Server environments.
• Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy environments.
• Support Microsoft Exchange environments including Exchange Online and Office365.
• Provide support and guidance across the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
• Administer Microsoft Azure and cloud-based infrastructure services.

Virtualisation, Storage & Backup

• Manage VMware platforms including patching and maintenance.
• Support Microsoft Hyper-V standalone and Failover Clustering environments.
• Perform SAN management and infrastructure backup administration.
• Support Veritas NetBackup solutions.
• Implement and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Security, Monitoring & Automation

• Support antivirus management and infrastructure security practices.
• Manage software patching and vulnerability management activities.
• Configure and manage monitoring tools including ManageEngine.
• Automate infrastructure and configuration tasks where possible using scripting and orchestration tools.
• Ensure compliance with information security and operational governance requirements.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Document technical configurations, specifications, and operational processes.
• Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, leadership teams, vendors, and service providers.
• Travel to sites to perform installations and maintenance when required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Minimum 5 years’ experience within IT infrastructure operations and enterprise support environments.
• Microsoft certifications such as MCSE and/or associate-level certifications in networking, virtualization, or storage technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows Server environments.
• Experience supporting both virtualized and non-virtualized infrastructure environments.
• Detailed knowledge of:

  • Infrastructure backups
  • VPN connectivity between cloud and on-premise environments
• Good understanding of:

  • Common network protocols
  • IT security principles
• Scripting experience using PowerShell or similar technologies.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring, deployment, and compliance tools.
