About

Within GE Vernova’s Hydro division—specifically the Reliability and Operations Site Support team—the Lead Engineer works on the rehabilitation of hydroelectric turbines and generators, as well as on new projects, providing support for service, warranty, and project close-out activities. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of over 20 skilled engineers, renowned for their rapid response times and problem-solving capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Support for On-Site Activities

  • Conduct site visits to assess the condition of existing turbines and/or alternators, and oversee baseline unit testing prior to on-site disassembly.
  • Hold daily conference calls with the field team to address questions and anticipate potential issues.
  • Formulate recommendations for additional work following the disassembly and inspection of existing components.
  • Review and approve field measurement sheets.
  • Resolve non-conformities and general technical issues.
  • Conduct site visits during critical project phases.
  • Support commissioning activities and testing phases.

Reliability

  • Resolve issues during the warranty period.
  • Provide feedback to the design team.

Operations

  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for operations and maintenance contracts.

Service

  • Perform design work and prepare related documentation for service projects (projects valued at $5M or less), specifically in support of customer service, equipment condition assessments, spare parts management, component refurbishment, and partial turbine/alternator overhauls.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the hydroelectric sector.
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without restriction.

Desired qualifications

  • Creativity, responsiveness, a sense of urgency, a strong balance between practical judgment and scientific rigor, priority management skills, proactivity, autonomy, and excellent communication skills are essential qualities for this position. Availability and ability to travel within North America and internationally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with site teams and clients.
  • Knowledge of the design of hydroelectric turbines and generators, as well as assembly methods.
  • Experience in mechanical design, strength of materials, and 3D drafting software.
  • Experience in finite element analysis, metallurgy, and welding processes is considered an additional asset.
  • Must agree to undergo pre-employment screening, including but not limited to reference checks and background checks.
