Missions
The engineer will contribute to ongoing research within an industrial research and innovation project. This project focuses on monitoring and troubleshooting network services within modern 5G Telco Cloud infrastructures and future networks. Virtualization and network slicing introduce complex abstraction layers and volatile resource dynamics that make centralized monitoring obsolete. We propose a distributed monitoring system capable of detecting real-time anomalies of physical nodes and links by analyzing measurements from the virtual nodes mapped to them. By combining different distributed computing models and tools, the project aims to establish a theoretical and practical framework for validating concepts to anticipate Quality of Service (QoS) violations and resource unavailability before they impact critical application traffic in this context of virtualised architectures.
Activities
In 5G/6G networks, services are segmented into virtually isolated slices and deployed on a mesh physical infrastructure. This "Telco Cloud" architecture adds abstraction layers where change is the norm, making fault detection particularly complex. To guarantee strict QoS, operators must:
Monitor real-time system measurements (CPU load, latency, packet loss) in a distributed manner.
Anticipate malfunctions related to dynamic mapping between virtual functions (VNF) and physical nodes.
Reduce the telemetry footprint: transmitting all raw measurements saturates the bandwidth required for critical traffic.
The challenge is therefore to design a distributed intelligence layer capable of predicting link and node anomalies/malfunctions while minimizing data exchange between network entities. Validation work through modeling, simulation, and a demonstrator is expected from the beginning of the position.
This position offers:
A high-level and exciting international research environment in a renowned institution
Being part of an international project team with contacts worldwide
In-depth scientific training on deep learning and its application to fluid mechanics
The opportunity to participate in local and international workshops and conferences
The engineer will carry out the following actions:
Contribute to the development of technical solutions with proof of concept.
Participate in the supervision of interns and PhD students within the project and help with testing and validation.
Participate in the writing of project deliverables.
Participate in the publication of results and their valorization.
