We are looking for a mechanical design engineer to join our hydroelectric engineering team and contribute to the design of large, custom-designed turbines and alternators, from initial concept development to manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. You will work on equipment designed to operate for decades, where design quality, engineering judgment, and reliability are essential. Your contribution will directly support renewable energy infrastructure that powers communities across North America.
Your role
As a mechanical design engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the mechanical design and validation of turbine and alternator components. This highly technical role will be particularly suited for professionals from manufacturers of hydroelectric equipment or related sectors, including: rotating equipment, turbomachinery, heavy industrial machinery, energy, aerospace, oil and gas. The position offers full visibility into the project lifecycle, while allowing you to remain close to the technical work.
Main responsibilities
- Design and validate mechanical components and assemblies for large rotating equipment
- Develop and maintain design files, calculations, and technical documentation according to Voith standards and project requirements
- Prepare technical specifications and manufacturing and assembly procedures
- Provide technical support during the procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases to ensure design intent is met
- Review and validate manufacturing and assembly drawings prepared by technicians, and occasionally produce drawings when required
- Perform analytical calculations and finite element analyses to verify structural integrity and mechanical performance
- Act as a technical resource person for clients and consulting engineers on assigned topics
- Assume any other related tasks or responsibilities related to the position
Profile sought
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
Experience
- 5 to 10 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role, ideally applied to turbines and/or alternators
- Experience in mechanical design in the following environments is an asset: Hydroelectricity or other energy systems, large rotating equipment or turbomachinery, heavy industrial machinery, or similar sectors
Technical and professional skills
- Strong skills in mechanical design, numerical methods, and structural validation
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary, project-oriented environments
- Proficiency in French and English to interact effectively at all levels of the organization, both within and outside Quebec
- Availability for occasional travel
