The Integrated Solutions Well Engineer performs all the well engineering activities within a project or Center of Excellence according to guidelines and processes set out in the Integrated Solutions Management System, international and/or local standards and regulations and customer requirements. The engineer provides technical input to the well construction, completions, well intervention and abandonment phases, from the concept and tendering stage through project commencement, execution and project close‑out.
During tendering phases, in addition to engineering work, the engineer will support the commercial and procurement teams. During planning and execution stages, the engineer interfaces with stakeholders to ensure safety, well integrity and cost‑effective job execution. The Well Engineer ensures the well design and well program are prepared and detailed procedures are provided to the execution team; the Well Engineer is a key contributor during project execution providing follow‑up, technical input, and operational support.
The Integrated Solutions Well Engineer will take ownership of preparing basic well design, technical requirements, and operational plans to accomplish both Baker Hughes and the customer’s technical and financial goals. The well engineer drives close engagement with service delivery, HSE, finance, commercial and sales, and other Baker Hughes product lines.
Responsibilities
As an Integrated Solutions Well Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring all engineering activities are in line with HSE policies and procedures, and driving HSE culture by setting example through safe work practices. Conducting business according to Baker Hughes values.
- Participating in tender bid preparation process for well engineering input.
- Participating in customer presentations & meetings (may include travel to other locations).
- Preparing well design, well plan and operational procedures for construction, completion, intervention and/or abandonment of wells in your area of responsibility.
- Defining technical services and third‑party requirements. Preparing operational time and cost estimates.
- Collaborating with internal and external parties, preparing risk register and contingency plans.
- Preparing and participating in peer reviews, peer assists and other quality‑assurance activities related to the project.
- Monitoring daily progress of job(s) or project(s) and monitoring operations expenditure.
- Evaluating the application and implementation of best practices and technological advancements to Integrated Solutions operations.
- Communicating effectively with well‑site/project stakeholders as needed and making recommendations to drive flawless service delivery and operational excellence as per approved plans.
- Monitoring technical and operations KPIs and benchmarking against offset‑well data and pre‑defined well objectives.
- Participating in Root Cause Analysis investigations.
- Preparing all technical reports related to the project including End of Well Report, after‑action reviews, lessons‑learned summary.
- Complying with data management according to Integrated Solutions procedures.
- Keeping abreast of technological and engineering process advancements through affiliation with professional societies and participation in networks, workshops, seminars and training courses.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with an MS in Petroleum/Oil & Gas or Well Engineering.
- Have at least 5 years of relevant work experience in well construction, completions, intervention and/or optimization (including Plug & Abandonment Design, Well Integrity Management and Coiled Tubing Applications).
- Possess basic knowledge/exposure to specific applications: conventional rotary drilling, horizontal and/or multilateral wells, pad drilling, unconventional.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills to work well with colleagues across all businesses/cultures, achieve objectives through effective influencing, and establish credibility with senior leaders.
- Exhibit excellent analytics and problem‑solving abilities, including the capacity to form hypotheses and move forward in the absence of complete information.
- Have excellent English oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics into clear and simple messages.
- Be experienced in the use of MS Office suite, Power BI or other analytical tools, and well‑engineering and design software (e.g., hydraulics, torque and drag, basic casing design).
