We are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Biomedical Engineering to provide strategic and operational leadership for Biomedical Engineering (BME) and Central Equipment Services (CES) within a large, multi-hospital healthcare environment.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant management of medical technology across two acute care facilities. The Director will oversee clinical engineering operations, equipment services, regulatory compliance, capital and operating budgets, and medical device lifecycle management—while supporting patient safety and system-wide operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Biomedical Engineering and Central Equipment Services operations, including staffing, performance management, and team development
  • Oversee medical device lifecycle management, including procurement, maintenance, and disposition
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, FDA regulations, and all applicable federal/state requirements
  • Manage capital and operating budgets, forecasting, and long-range equipment planning
  • Oversee medical device reporting, recalls, adverse events, and risk mitigation in partnership with Risk Management
  • Direct hospital equipment inventory, distribution, and tracking systems
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, clinical teams, and IT on technology evaluation and integration (including EMR/EPIC systems)
  • Support policy development, operational standards, and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related field (required)
  • Master’s degree or MBA (preferred)
  • CBET, CHTM, or CCE certification (required)
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in clinical/biomedical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a healthcare environment
