Your Role
This position is vital in providing accounting and analytical services through the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements. You will also engage in consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders, including business unit leaders and auditors.
What you'll be working on...
- Maintain fixed asset records for regulated utility operations, ensuring compliance with FERC Uniform System of Accounts and relevant state Public Service Commission requirements.
- Record, classify, and monitor capital additions, retirements, transfers, and depreciation following approved capitalization policies.
- Support construction accounting activities, including CWIP/RWIP, asset in-service determinations, and proper account assignments.
- Prepare and reconcile plant roll forwards and depreciation schedules for regulatory reporting.
- Interpret and apply FERC guidance and state commission orders that affect property accounting treatment.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, tax, and regulatory teams to validate asset data and resolve any accounting or regulatory issues.
- Provide support for audits, rate cases, and commission inquiries related to plant balances and asset accounting practices.
- Facilitate meetings with project managers to discuss project status (% of completion) and communicate actual vs budget capital spend.
- Evaluate existing processes to identify opportunities for improvements.
- Attend management meetings with business unit leaders to discuss financial results.
- Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration to achieve timely filing goals and foster overall company growth.
- Engage in company initiatives focused on community involvement and safety.
- Complete additional monthly tasks associated with providing accounting services.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Three years of experience in finance and/or accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Preferred knowledge of utility accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
- Able to analyze financial statements effectively.
- Skilled in fostering effective working relationships across various teams.
- Capable of communicating complex information clearly in written and verbal formats.
