About
The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking an Intermediate Accounting/Financial Analyst. The role supports the Manager of Finance in maintaining financial data integrity, strong internal controls, and consistent accounting practices in alignment with Ministry of Education requirements and Board policies.
The Intermediate Accounting/Financial Analyst is responsible for the day‑to‑day financial data and analytics of the Board, including GL management, journal entries, month‑end close processes, reconciliations, and operational support to ensure data integrity for analytical use. The Analyst provides critical inputs to budgeting and financial reporting by ensuring complete, accurate, and timely month‑end information and supporting the foundation of financial systems used.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the GL structure in the financial system, ensuring it meets the Ministry of Education code of account guidelines.
- Work in collaboration with the Accounting, Payroll and HR departments to ensure proper GL account coding.
- Assist in preparation of internal financial reports, including monitoring monthly budgets, liability & asset account reconciliations and preparation of variance analysis identifying areas of concern.
- Provide guidance to ensure proper coding for funding, revenue breakouts and payments to reconcile against Ministry payments, and REP programs.
- Support GSN funding flow for Business Analyst REP models and assist with accruals, reclasses, and closing entries.
- Provide payroll‑related analytical support for liability reconciliations and historical clean‑up.
- Prepare quarterly Trustee and Superintendent expense reports. Work in collaboration with the Executive assistants for enhanced tracking and analysis on nature of expenses and classification for public posting.
- Support REP/GSN operational processes through accurate expense coding and GL monitoring.
- Review Indigenous Education program transactions for coding accuracy, spending alignment, and reporting.
- Support the Manager of Finance & Accounting Supervisor in communications and approved advice and guidance to Managers, Principals, senior staff, and departments when developing their budgets and follow up on variances throughout the year.
- Assist with the development and implementation of streamlined business processes, procedures, reports, and training to meet the changing financial needs of the Board.
- Assist with annual external audit requirements, including reconciliations and GL substantiation.
- Special projects, assignments and ad‑hoc duties as necessary related to Budget and Financial analysis.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary diploma in Business Administration, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience deemed to be acceptable by the Board.
- Professional Accounting designation or working towards designation (CPA: CA, CMA, CGA) is considered an asset.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in finance or related experience – preferably within a school board or Ministry environment.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience in the effective management of multiple projects and demonstrated ability to successfully complete tasks.
- Demonstrate personal initiative, sound judgement, strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to function effectively and collaboratively with various employee groups and external contacts.
- Strong analytical skills with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail. In addition to demonstrated problem‑solving skills.
- Well versed in accounting concepts for Ontario school boards and comprehensive understanding of complex educational funding requirements would be considered an asset.
- Proficient computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products, particularly Excel.
