Summary of the Role
This role sits at the intersection of business, product, data, and engineering, supporting the development of AI-driven software solutions. The Business Engineer translates business intent into structured, buildable requirements that can be executed by an AI-enabled development process. The role also includes Scrum Master responsibilities, ensuring effective planning, workflow clarity, and removal of delivery impediments within a cross-functional team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Translate business needs into clear, structured requirements and solution designs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support AI-driven software development
- Facilitate agile ceremonies and act as Scrum Master for the delivery team
- Ensure clarity of requirements and alignment across business and technical stakeholders
- Define decision logic, business rules, and workflows, including human-in-the-loop processes
- Support iterative delivery by refining backlog items and maintaining delivery flow
- Identify and remove blockers to enable team productivity and progress
- Communicate complex concepts in a clear and structured manner
Core Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in business engineering, business analysis, or similar roles on complex technology initiatives
- Experience translating business intent into system behavior and technical requirements
- Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments
- Undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or a STEM-related discipline
- Proven ability to define actionable requirements and solution options
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience with AI-enabled or automated software development environments
- Experience with decision support systems or business rules engines
- Experience defining decision logic and workflow processes
- Postgraduate education or certification in business analysis, systems thinking, or related fields
- Experience working on complex, cross-functional technology initiatives
Terms
This is a 12-month contract position based in Richmond, BC. The role follows a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation of approximately 3 days onsite per week. Candidates must be available to start as scheduled and participate in standard onboarding processes. A background check and reference check will be required at the offer stage.
