Mechanical Engineer, Production Irradiator Engineering

About

Reporting to the Manager, Production Irradiator Engineering, you will be responsible for the design, testing and on-going technical and manufacturing support of production irradiator components. You will work closely with the Project Management office and the Production Irradiator Controls team to deliver projects on-time and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead or participate in all aspects of the design and manufacture of irradiator components and assemblies.
• Lead the design process.
• Coordinate prototype manufacture.
• Perform safety analyses including engineering calculations.
• Create test specifications.
• Coordinate and execute testing.
• Compile results and generate reports.
• Provide input to improve engineering processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical).
• Minimum of five years relevant work experience in mechanical engineering.
• Professional Engineer designation or eligibility for accreditation as a professional engineer.
• Competency in finite element analysis using SolidWorks or other software tools.

Skills and Competencies

• Design and engineering analysis of mechanical systems and components.
• Basic mechanical stress/strength calculations.
• Design, prototyping, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical or electromechanical equipment used for manufacturing processes.
• Simple thermal analysis and calculations.

Additional Assets

• Prior experience in nuclear industry.
• Prior experience in the design, analysis and manufacture of conveyor systems.
• Familiarity with welding and specifically weld design, specification and qualification.
• Some exposure to radiation shielding design and analysis.

Additional Requirements

• Occasional overtime to meet project requirements.
• Travel requirements (60-90 days international travel requiring valid Canadian passport).
