Role
As an Intermediate Noise and Vibration Engineer/Specialist – Building Acoustics at LEA, you will analyze, model, and evaluate noise and vibration in buildings and infrastructure projects. You will review architectural and mechanical designs for acoustic performance, perform field measurements, prepare technical reports, and recommend practical mitigation solutions. Responsibilities
- Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings/shop drawings for acoustic integrity and provide detailed recommendations and working drawings.
- Prepare technical analyses using commercial software packages and proprietary tools for noise/vibration predictions, impact assessments, mitigation design, and building acoustics evaluations.
- Complete high-quality technical reports including baseline assessments, compliance evaluations, mitigation recommendations, Acoustic Design Reviews, Noise Impact Studies, acoustic specification documents, Vibration Impact Studies, Construction Noise and Vibration Management Plans, and reporting for approvals and compliance.
- Communicate technical findings and recommended mitigation measures clearly to teams, clients, regulatory agencies, builders, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, and multidisciplinary teams throughout project phases.
- Manage multiple active projects, balancing priorities to meet schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Prepare proposals for private clients and responses to Requests for Proposal and Expressions of Interest.
- Stay current with industry standards, software advancements, regulatory changes, and best practices.
- Conduct noise and vibration field measurements including setup, calibration, data collection, processing, interpretation, and specialized building acoustics testing.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Support additional assignments within the Transportation & Systems Division.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Acoustical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or related field), Physics, Environmental Science or equivalent.
- Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario upon completion of required experience.
- Minimum of 3–6 years of relevant consulting experience in environmental noise/vibration and building acoustics assessments.
- Strong expertise in building/architectural acoustics including acoustic specifications, design reviews, and compliance with OBC and Tarion requirements.
- Proficiency with acoustic design and environmental noise/vibration modelling software such as Cadna/A, TNM, SoundPlan, STAMSON, INSUL.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario environmental legislation and guidelines related to noise and vibration.
- Experience with sound level meters, dosimeters, noise and vibration monitors, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong writing and presentation skills with ability to prepare clear technical reports and communicate complex findings to non-technical audiences.
Assets (Nice to Have)
- Programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data processing, automation, or custom acoustic analysis.
- Experience with advanced signal processing techniques and tools.
- Familiarity with additional modelling tools for rail transit, international standards, or advanced room acoustics simulation.
- Hands-on experience with Tarion-compliant acoustic field testing, certification processes, or warranty investigations.
- Previous involvement in large-scale environmental impact assessments, transit projects, renewable energy developments, or institutional/healthcare/shelter acoustic designs.
- Membership in professional organizations (e.g., CAA, INCE, ASA).
Total Rewards
- Annual Salary Range: $68,000 – $82,000

Work Arrangement
