This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.
Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?
In this internship, you will help translate Roche’s Responsible AI principles into practical guidance for AI teams, with a strong focus on generative AI and agentic systems. You will contribute to a project that turns high-level risk frameworks into actionable tools that data scientists, engineers, and AI product teams can use in their day-to-day work. Over the first three months, you are expected to help create a practical Responsible AI playbook, support the development of a prototype guidance chatbot, and shape recommendations for scaling this guidance across Roche. The project contributes especially to Access to Innovation by enabling trustworthy and responsible AI adoption in healthcare, and to Environment by integrating sustainable AI practices such as model efficiency and resource optimization. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of Responsible AI, sustainability, and real-world product development in a global healthcare company.
The Opportunity
- Review Roche’s existing Responsible AI risk framework and internal guidance
- Identify gaps in practical mitigation guidance for AI development teams
- Develop mitigation strategies and implementation patterns for key Responsible AI risks, including model performance, bias and fairness, harmful outputs, security and misuse risks, and agentic AI risks
- Translate these strategies into practical guidance such as checklists, design patterns, and implementation examples for AI practitioners
- Structure guidance content so it can be easily used by data scientists, engineers, and AI product teams
- Design and prototype a Responsible AI guidance chatbot integrated into Roche’s internal gSite
- Test the chatbot using representative AI development scenarios and refine its knowledge base
- Contribute recommendations for scaling and maintaining Responsible AI guidance across Roche
Who You Are
You are enrolled or have completed your Master’s or PhD studies at a university, preferably in the field of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, IT Compliance, Information Security or Responsible AI within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.
Furthermore you are
- Proficient in Python and familiar with AI/ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn, with a solid understanding of model evaluation, performance metrics, and AI/ML limitations
- Familiar with Generative AI and LLMs, including areas such as prompt engineering, RAG, agent-based systems, software development tools, APIs, testing, and chatbot or AI application frameworks
- Knowledgeable about Responsible AI concepts such as bias, fairness, explainability, governance, and ideally AI security risks, AI governance frameworks, MLOps, or sustainable AI practices
- A clear communicator with a structured and analytical mindset who can translate theory into practical solutions
- Collaborative, curious, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with a strong sense of ownership; English proficiency is a must
If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.
