About the role

General Description

The IT Business Analyst Level 1 is responsible for gathering, documenting, and managing business requirements for small IT projects while producing high-quality documentation and providing ongoing support to IT teams, business stakeholders, and end-users to support organizational objectives.

Note: On medium or large projects, the IT Business Analyst Level 1 may work alongside more senior resources.

Experience And Responsibilities

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Business Analyst on small to medium technology-related projects within a complex enterprise environment or equivalent.
  • Produce high-quality project documentation, including governance documents, process impact assessments, process maps, and process designs, while coordinating stakeholder reviews, approvals, and sign-offs to support safe, high-quality, on-time, and within-budget project delivery.
  • Liaise with internal teams, external teams, and vendors regarding data migration and system interface activities to ensure dependencies are identified, addressed, and documented appropriately.
  • Gather and document business and system requirements, including:
    • Business Requirements
    • Functional and Non-Functional Requirements
    • Data Requirements
    • Business Scenarios and Use Cases
    • Requirements Traceability Matrix
    • Functional Specifications
    • User Interface Specifications
  • Assist with testing activities, including preparing test documentation such as Test Plans, Test Scenarios/Scripts, and Test Reports to validate business requirements.
  • Provide ongoing clarification and support to development, testing, training, and user experience teams to ensure proper interpretation of requirements and process designs.
  • Support Project Managers with project planning activities for future phases.
  • Assist Change Management and Training Leads with communications, stakeholder analysis, change management activities, training coordination, and rollout support.
  • Contribute to successful transition activities to sustainment/support teams.
  • Document meeting discussions and outcomes through detailed meeting minutes.

Education And Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Good understanding of business domains and how technology solutions support business objectives.
  • Knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
    • Public sector or utilities industry experience
    • Enterprise business and technology environments
    • IT project delivery methodologies
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, including Word, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for professional environments.
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently manage day-to-day responsibilities.

  • Proven IT Business Analyst skills.
  • Project coordination experience.
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage daily tasks.

  • Previous experience working within a utility or public-sector environment.
