About
The IT Engineer – Payments Applications supports and enhances critical payments platforms. This role is responsible for production stability, engineering improvements, integrations, and operational excellence across payments systems, ensuring reliability, security, and regulatory compliance. The engineer partners closely with Product, Operations, Infrastructure, and vendors to support business growth and modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across applications, batch, file transfer, API, database, and infrastructure layers.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement remediation to improve resiliency and reduce repeat incidents.
- Implement application enhancements, fixes, and automation to improve performance and reduce operational toil.
- Support integrations and connectivity with internal systems and external networks/vendors via APIs, SFTP, and batch processing.
- Support and maintain interfaces between payments applications and upstream/downstream systems (core, digital channels, fraud/AML, GL, data platforms).
- Execute release, deployment, and configuration changes in accordance with SDLC and change management processes.
- Support testing activities (system, integration, UAT), including data setup, validation, and defect resolution.
- Ensure adherence to security, risk, and compliance standards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Execute platform modernization efforts (e.g., ISO 20022 adoption, cloud migration, microservices enablement, API modernization).
- Support audit requests and evidence collection; remediate findings and vulnerabilities within SLA.
Required Qualifications
- 3‑5+ years of experience engineering wires payment systems.
- Experience with middleware/API platforms, observability tools, and scripting/automation.
- Experience with file‑based integrations (SFTP, PGP, batch schedules) and API‑based integrations (REST/SOAP, middleware/orchestration).
- Experience with SQL (querying, joins, stored procedures, performance basics).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across application and infrastructure.
- Cloud or hybrid environment experience (Azure/AWS).
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively under time pressure.
- Must have ISO 20022 experience and Finastra knowledge.
