Polizei Berlin, Direktion Zentraler Service Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik, is looking for an IT Security Engineer (m/f/d) (TSB/in Network Security) as soon as possible, on a permanent basis.

We operate and monitor a variety of IT security components such as firewalls, application-level gateways, web content gateways, e-mail encryption gateways, IDSs, VPNs, switches, routers, e-mail content scanners, and various types of antivirus systems within a 24/7 working time model. We handle everything ourselves, from the technical specification and procurement to configuration, commissioning, and monitoring of a component.
Requirements
You have knowledge:
- In handling TCP/IP networks and complex error analysis
- Of routing mechanisms such as OSPF & BGP, VLANs
- In Linux/Windows
- In programming, e.g., Shell, C, PHP, Perl, Java, JS or VB
- In IT security requirements
- In enterprise antivirus systems
The performance of these tasks involves high responsibility, so you will undergo a security check (SÜ 2) beforehand. To ensure smooth operation, you will participate in paid on-call duty after comprehensive training. From then on, home office is also possible up to two days per week.

- A completed degree (Bachelor/Diploma [FH]) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or
- A completed degree (Bachelor/Diploma [FH]) in a mathematical, natural science, economic, or technical field, each with a focus on data processing and, if possible, corresponding professional experience, or
- Equivalent skills and experience in the relevant professional fields
If your native language is not German, a recognized certificate for German language skills, at least level C 2, corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), is required. The entire selection process will be conducted in German.
Beyond the formal requirements, you bring:
- Practical experience in implementing IT security requirements (e.g., BSI baseline security catalog, emergency concepts, data protection and data security)
- Experience with firewall systems, DMZs
- Knowledge of Unix systems, installation/configuration and shell, as well as creating shell scripts
- Experience with Wireshark or TCPDUMP
For the performance of the tasks, we expect from you:

- A strong team spirit
- Good knowledge of the English language, especially technical terminology
- Willingness for flexible working hours, possibly also on weekends and at night, as well as participation in regular on-call duty on weekends, holidays, and normal weekdays for 7 days each (paid working time from Friday to Friday)
- Completion of the extended security check (SÜ2) according to the Security Screening Act – SÜG – (Prerequisite: continuous main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany for the last 5 years)
