About the role

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our small business. In this role you will support day-to-day, monthly, and year-end accounting activities while ensuring accuracy and efficiency. This is a remote position available in any United States jurisdiction not excluded (AK, CA, CO, CT, DC, HI, IL, LA, MA, MN, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NY, ND, OR, PR, RI, VT, WA, WY).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains accounts receivable and payable files, including invoice preparation, expense validation, and timely payment processing.
  • Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities including journal entry posting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepares and analyzes general ledger account reconciliations and financial statements.
  • Prepares internal financial management reports and supports cash flow and budget formulation activities.
  • Facilitates indirect rate budgets, DCAA submissions, incurred cost estimates, and other compliance reporting.
  • Performs payroll activities, including tax payments and workers' compensation insurance processing.
  • Supports contract financial performance, pricing/cost proposals, tax activities, and both internal and external audit processes.
  • Assesses and recommends improvements to accounting operations and internal control systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong ability to follow established processes and procedures with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with payroll systems and familiarity with FAR, DCAA, DCMA, and CAS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to handle personal identifiable information (PII) and controlled unclassified information (CUI) securely; U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency is required.

  • Experience supporting a federal government contractor.
