About
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Junior AI Engineer.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data & AI, this position is responsible to develop, implement, and integrate AI/ML models end-to-end by collaborating on data pipelines and preprocessing, ensuring high data quality, producing maintainable tested code, and continuously applying emerging AI/ML best practices to improve deployed solutions.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist in developing and iterating AI/ML models using appropriate algorithms, tools, and best practices.
- Partner with data scientists and data engineers to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines.
- Execute data preprocessing workflows (feature engineering, normalization, encoding, and train/test splits) to support model performance.
- Implement, test, and validate AI models using programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Python).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI models into production systems, applications, and services.
- Conduct data cleansing and support ongoing data quality management (profiling, anomaly detection, and issue remediation).
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to high-quality, secure, and maintainable codebases following team standards.
- Stay current on AI/ML advancements and apply new techniques to improve solution accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
Qualifications
- 4-Year University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 2 years experience with programming languages such as C#, Python, Java, or Angular, React, JavaScript. Basic understanding of software development methodologies.
- Hands-on experience implementing and testing ML/AI models using Python and common ML frameworks/libraries.
- Working knowledge of data pipelines and preprocessing techniques, including feature engineering and model-ready dataset preparation.
- Experience collaborating with data scientists, data engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
- Proficiency with software engineering practices such as version control (e.g., Git), code reviews, and writing maintainable, well-tested code.
- Demonstrated ability to perform data cleansing and support data quality management through profiling, validation, and issue resolution.
