Junior AI Engineer - South Africa Nationally (Expression of Interest)

Role Summary

Supports the design, development, testing, and deployment of AI/ML solutions. Works with data, product, and engineering teams to deliver models and AI-enabled features that meet business requirements and operate reliably across environments.

Location / Time zones: US-based, supporting East & West Coast business hours

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in building and training ML models under guidance (feature engineering, model selection, tuning).
• Support data preparation and validation in partnership with data engineers and analysts.
• Implement model inference code and APIs, following established engineering standards.
• Participate in testing, performance evaluation, and documentation of AI solutions.
• Monitor basic model metrics and support troubleshooting of pipeline or deployment issues.
• Collaborate across US time zones with stakeholders to clarify requirements and support delivery.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 0–3 years of experience (internships/projects included) in ML, software engineering, or data science.
• Programming skills in Python; familiarity with common ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Understanding of fundamentals: model evaluation, overfitting, bias/variance, basic statistics.
• Exposure to Git, CI/CD, and cloud platforms is an advantage.

Working hours:

This role supports a US‑based client and therefore requires working US hours.

The applicable shifts are:

• 15:00 – 23:00 (SAST)
• 18:00 – 02:00 (SAST)
